All Free Man are called “Master.” All Free Women are called “Mistress.”
You should never greet using a title. For example, “Greetings, Ubar.” is incorrect. Slaves are not at the same level, obviously, as Free, and have no right to use titles.
You can, however, use titles when you emote. Example: dear darling smiles at the First Sword. “Tal, Master.”
There is a notecard floating around that advises you as to the correct order of greeting the Free. This notecard is incorrect. The books state that all FM are called Master; all FW are called Mistress.
The only time where knowing rank is somewhat important is when serving, as you should serve your own Master first (unless he directs you otherwise), then serve the highest ranking person present and so forth.
Also, while you may describe a Panther as a Huntress, you should never address her as such.
